What’s the advice on Handle Food Scraps in the Sink?

Q: Like many homes, we have a double stainless steel sink. One side has a garbage disposal, the other side a regular drain. One of us insists that no food should go down the drain side, only the disposal side. The other feels that small bits of food that fit down the plain drain are okay to be disposed of that way.

What is your best way to solve  this conundrum?

Editor: Since you have a garbage disposal, I’m inclined to say that none of your food scraps should go down the drain, no matter their size. Send them straight to the garbage disposal.

Readers, what do you think? Is it okay if some food goes down the drain, or should it only go down the disposal?
